Cleaning physically removes most germs, dirt, and impurities from surfaces or objects. Cleaning works by using soap (or detergents) with water to physically remove germs. This process does not necessarily kill germs, but by removing them, it lowers their numbers and the risk of spreading infection.
Sanitizing lowers the number of germs. With use of bleach solutions or sanitizing sprays, the occurrence and growth of bacteria, viruses and fungi is reduced.
Disinfecting kills germs on surfaces or objects. There are 3 types of disinfectants: limited, general, and hospital grade.
